On Friday night December 3 and Saturday, December 4, the BHS held two very successful events: Friday night we participated in the DBA’s Chocolate Walk and Saturday the BHS celebrated Clara Barton’s 200th Birthday with goodies, Clara Barton items for sale, activities for kids, outdoor and indoor Clara Barton exhibits. The Red Cross SNJ Chapter Executive Director, Madhuri Rodriguez, and NJ Region Communications Director, Diane Concannon, attended and the Red Cross Emergency Vehicle served hot chocolate and treats!
The City declared December 4th Clara Barton Day in Bordentown and Mayor Sciortino read a beautiful proclamation. Also paying us a visit were Senator Troy Singleton, Assemblyman Dr. Herb Conaway, and Assemblywoman Carol Murphy. They read a proclamation about Clara and the BHS. Hafiza Kazi from Congressman Andy Kim’s office attended as Congressman Kim was in Washington. She read the speech about Clara Barton, the Schoolhouse, and the BHS that Congressman Kim will read and place in the Congressional Record on December 7.
Kids were engaged by the activities we had planned. Kids and adults alike really enjoyed the delicious treats that our volunteers had baked. We sold many Clara Barton items too!!!
The weekend would not have been possible without the tremendous help of our volunteers – our helpers in the Meeting House and the bakers who made so many delicious treats. We can’t thank them enough!
We would like to thank the Red Cross representatives and volunteers for attending and arranging for their Emergency Vehicle to serve goodies and hot chocolate.
We would like to thank Congressman Andy Kim for his support and Senator Singleton, Assemblyman Conaway, and Assemblywoman Murphy for their support and generous donation. We sincerely appreciated all that they did for the BHS.
We thank Mayor Sciortino, Deputy Mayor Myers, and Commissioner Lynch for their support and for proclaiming December 4th Clara Barton Day in Bordentown.
Finally we would like to thank all our Members and friends who attended the festivities and made the day truly memorable.
Pictures of the festivities will be posted on our Social Media sites and on our website. Also, Bonnie (aka Clara Barton) made 6ABC news!
